What Is Teeth in a Day?

Teeth in a Day is the modern approach to implant dentistry for patients who don’t want to spend months without teeth. Traditionally, implants were placed and left to heal long before any teeth were attached — often leaving patients in removable dentures in the meantime.

With immediate-load implants, Dr. Winfield places your implants and attaches a fixed set of teeth to them on the very same day. The implants placed on day one are permanent. The teeth attached to them are high-quality fixed temporaries, engineered to look natural and function comfortably during the three-to-six-month healing phase while your implants fuse with the bone. Once that fusion — called osseointegration — is complete, your temporaries are exchanged for premium zirconia restorations built to last.

For decades, dental implants meant waiting — months of healing between extractions, implant placement, and finally receiving your new teeth. Teeth in a Day, also called immediate-load dental implants, changes that. With advanced digital planning and same-day prosthetic delivery, your implants and a fixed set of new teeth are placed in a single visit.

At Winfield Dental Group in downtown San Diego, Teeth in a Day treatment is planned and
performed by Dr. Jonathan M. Winfield, DDS, FACP — a board-certified prosthodontist — using the fully digital Winplants® workflow. Call (619) 363-5900 to find out if same-day teeth are right for you.

How a 24-Hour Smile Transformation Is Possible

That last point is the real difference-maker. Sending impressions back and forth to an outside laboratory used to add weeks or months to implant treatment. Because every step of the Winplants® process happens in-house, your surgery and your new teeth are delivered on the same day, by the same specialist team.

The secret isn’t rushing — it’s technology. Winfield Dental Group runs a complete digital workflow under one roof:

CBCT 3D imaging

CBCT 3D imaging maps your bone, nerves, and sinuses in precise detail before surgery ever begins.

Digital smile design

Digital smile design lets Dr. Winfield plan the shape, shade, and position of your new teeth around your face and bite.

Photogrammetry-guided surgery

Photogrammetry-guided surgery captures your exact implant positions with digital accuracy the moment they’re placed.

In-house 3D printing

In-house 3D printing produces your fixed same-day teeth on site — no waiting on an outside lab.

Teeth in a Day and All-on-X: A Powerful Combination

Immediate-load treatment is most often used as part of All-on-X full-arch restoration, where a small number of implants support a complete bridge of teeth. Many providers place the four- implant minimum per arch; Dr. Winfield’s Winplants® standard is six wherever anatomy allows — spreading bite forces across more points of support for greater stability, at no additional cost.

Full-arch cases aren’t the only ones that qualify, though. The same immediate-load principles can apply to single implants and multi-tooth bridges when conditions allow — so even one failing front tooth can often be removed, replaced with an implant, and fitted with a fixed temporary crown in a single appointment.

If you’re missing five or more teeth in one arch, full-arch treatment is often the more cost-effective route than replacing teeth individually — learn more on our All-on-X page.

What Happens in 24 Hours

A complete look at the day you walk in with failing teeth and walk out with a new smile.

Hour 0 · Pre-Op & Sedation

Arrival & IV Sedation

You arrive at our Downtown San Diego center, meet with the team, and IV sedation is administered. Within minutes, you’re comfortable and relaxed for the procedure ahead.

Hour 1–4 · Surgical Phase

Hour 1–4 · Surgical Phase

Implant Placement & Photogrammetry

Dr. Winfield performs the implant surgery using guided digital technology and photogrammetry to capture exact implant positions in real-time. Failing teeth are removed, implants are placed, and immediate impressions are taken — all while you remain comfortably sedated.

Hour 5 · In-House Lab

3D Printed Same-Day Bridge

While you rest in our recovery area, the in-house digital lab fabricates your fixed temporary bridge using 3D-printing technology calibrated to your photogrammetry data — ensuring a perfect fit on your newly placed implants.

Hour 6 · Bridge Delivery

Same-Day Fixed Teeth

Your custom fixed bridge is attached to the implants — torqued into place with precision. We verify your bite, confirm function, and walk you through care instructions. The transformation is complete.

Hour 8 · Walk Out

Your New Smile, Same Evening

You leave with a functional, beautiful fixed smile. Most patients are home by dinnertime — eating soft foods that night and back to work within 3–5 days.

Months Later · Final Restorations

Premium Zirconia Final Teeth

After your implants fully integrate with the bone, you return for your final premium zirconia restorations — engineered for decades of beauty, strength, and natural function.

Permanent Implants. Same-Day Teeth. A Premium Final Smile.

This staged approach protects your implants while they heal and ensures your final smile is built on a fully integrated foundation.

It’s important to understand exactly what happens on day one — and what comes next:

Your implants are permanent from day one

The implants Dr. Winfield places are your final implants; they begin fusing with your jawbone immediately.

Your same-day teeth are fixed, high-quality temporaries

Secured to your implants and not removable, they’re designed to look great and function well throughout the three- to-six-month healing phase.

Your final teeth are premium zirconia

Once osseointegration is complete, we craft and attach your final zirconia restoration — stronger, more stain-resistant, and precisely refined to your bite and smile.

The Teeth in a Day Timeline

01

Before surgery: digital planning

Before surgery: digital planning. A CBCT scan, digital impressions, and a smile design session let Dr. Winfield map your implant positions and design your new teeth before your surgical visit.

02

Day one: surgery and same-day teeth

Day one: surgery and same- day teeth. Failing teeth are removed, your implants areplaced with sedation options for comfort, photogrammetry captures their exact positions, and your fixed temporary teeth are attached before you go home.

03

Months 1–6: healing

Months 1–6: healing. Your implants fuse with the bone while you enjoy fixed teeth. You’ll follow a soft-food diet at first and come in for brief check-ins.

04

The finish line: your zirconia smile

The finish line: your zirconia smile. Once healing is confirmed, your premium zirconia restoration is placed — the final step in your transformation.

Are You a Candidate for Teeth in a Day?

Same-day loading requires enough bone quality and implant stability to support teeth immediately — exactly what Dr. Winfield’s CBCT imaging and digital planning are designed to confirm in advance. Health factors such as smoking or uncontrolled diabetes can affect healing, so your consultation includes a full review of your medical history. In the rare case immediate loading isn’t advisable, Dr. Winfield will tell you honestly and design the safest path to your new smile.

Immediate-load treatment may be right for you if you:

Have failing, loose, or badly damaged teeth that need replacement

Are already missing multiple teeth and want to avoid removable dentures

Wear a denture and want fixed teeth without months of waiting

Need a single tooth replaced and don’t want to go without it

Specialist Care From Start to Finish

Teeth in a Day compresses months of dentistry into a single visit — which makes the training of the person holding the plan matter even more. Dr. Jonathan M. Winfield, DDS, FACP is a board-certified prosthodontist: a specialist in restoring and replacing teeth who earned his dental degree
from the University of the Pacific, completed an advanced prosthodontics residency at the University of Illinois Chicago, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. From your first scan to your final zirconia teeth, every step of the Winplants® process is performed by the same specialist-led team, under one roof in downtown San Diego.

How Much Does Teeth in a Day Cost in San Diego?

Cost depends on the scope of your treatment — a single immediate-load implant is priced very differently from a full-arch restoration. Full-arch Winplants® treatment, with six implants included, starts at $22,000 per arch, and financing is available through Proceed Finance with monthly payments as low as $318. You’ll receive clear, upfront pricing at your consultation before any treatment begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are same-day teeth permanent?

The implants are permanent from day one. The teeth attached that day are high-quality fixed temporaries worn during the three-to-six-month healing phase; once your implants have fused with the bone, they’re replaced with your final premium zirconia restoration.

They’re closely related. Teeth in a Day describes the timing — implants and fixed teeth in one
visit — while All-on-X describes full-arch treatment supported by a small number of implants.
Most Teeth in a Day cases at Winfield Dental Group are All-on-X restorations built on our six-
implant Winplants® standard.

Often, yes. When bone quality and implant stability allow, a failing tooth can be removed,
replaced with an implant, and fitted with a fixed temporary crown in the same appointment.

Most patients are far more comfortable than they expected. Sedation options keep you relaxed during surgery, and post-operative soreness typically eases within a few days with over-the-
counter or prescribed medication.

You’ll follow a soft-food diet during the initial healing phase to protect your implants while they integrate. Once your final zirconia teeth are placed, virtually all of your favorite foods are back on the menu.

Digital technology. Because Winfield Dental Group handles CBCT imaging, smile design, photogrammetry, and 3D printing entirely in-house, there’s no outside lab adding weeks to the timeline — your teeth are designed and produced the same day your implants are placed.
